Free Speech? Not for YOU!

When much younger and living at home, with my siblings, quarrels would occasionally break out among us. Mom would then have to come in and break up the fray. Often, one of the younger kids, including my sister, would be setting atop me and pummeling me for all that they were worth; I’d be in a state of total collapse from laughing myself sick over whatever had just occurred and defenseless.

Mom would beat the crap out of me, for some obscure reasoning that I still can’t get reconciled, and the perpetrator of the incident would get off scot free. I’ve noticed that same scenario being played out on the world theater and national scene in several countries, including the USA.

Rendering everything to its basic elements, it condenses to this: a liberal vs conservative class war.

Definition for a modern liberal according to Raven: social welfarist, socialist, unbound, pertinacious ideologues parroting some obscure collective theme, albeit politics or religion.

Definition for a modern conservative according to Raven: everything liberals tout themselves to be and aren’t.

For example this story about Nava, a conservative college student:

After Death Threats, Student Beat Unconscious for Traditional Views.

December 15, 2007
Princeton, NJ
by Matthew J. Schmitz

Really Long Link

After receiving multiple death threats, a Princeton student was beat unconscious last Friday in what appears to be a politically-motivated assault. The attack came after emails saying, "WE WILL KILL YOU," were sent to the officers of a student group that promotes traditional views of marriage and sexual ethics.

…while walking to the home of a local youth he mentors through a student volunteer organization.

One message said, "SHUT THE F* UP WE WILL DESTROY ALL OF YOU WE ARE WATCHING YOU YOU DONT BELONG HERE WE WILL KILL YOU."

Nava received additional threats after criticizing Princeton's policy of condom distribution in the Daily Princetonian.

Really Long Link

…comes only a day after a columnist for the Daily Princetonian criticized Princeton's administration for signaling that there was an "Open Season" on conservative students.

Really Long Link

*Update: The planned event did not occur yesterday. The reasons for postponement were not initially clear.

Aren’t you touched deeply by this showing of compassion and tolerance displayed by his fellow academician’s, the same tolerance demanded by his liberal fellows.

And what about this display of religious tolerance at a college:

Intifada Against College Republicans
By Lee Kaplan
FrontPageMagazine.com | November 2, 2004

Really Long Link

San Francisco, November 1, 2004- A mob of Arab students at San Francisco State University attacked a group of College Republicans on the San Francisco State University campus at noon today during a "Turnout the Vote" event in front of the campus student union building.

"When one of the Republican students asked one of the women that if she hated America so much, why she didn't leave, she screamed at him 'I have some pride. I would strap a bomb on myself and blow myself up as a suicide bomber rather than call myself an American,'"according to Wray. He said the woman also ranted that terrorists are "freedom fighters."

"One woman said she'd blow up the College Republicans on campus," Wray continued. "They began throwing food at us and even tried to tip over our table." The campus police did nothing. Instead of separating them from our table, they kept pulling me aside and asking if we were willing to leave."

One of the Arab women even began hitting one of the male college Republicans who deflected her blows with his arms. "She got right into his face screaming and trying to hit him. When he deflected one of her blows she then yelled to the male Arabs present that the Republican student was hitting a woman." This is a tactic used frequently in demonstrations lately, where pro-Palestinian demonstrators send women in to physically assault demonstrators from opposing groups then claim that women are being attacked when they are physically stopped by victims.

This is such a touching show of liberalism and religious tolerance in action and on display for the world to view, where’s the outrage?

And then there is this matter of free speech for liberals, and apparently, only for liberals; why do conservative have to sue for the same rights demanded and expected without recourse by, who else, liberals?

Student Sues Over Right to Express Christian Belief on Homosexuality
Saturday, November 3, 2007

Really Long Link

The following is from the newsletter of the NC Family Policy Council, Nov. 2, 2007: "Student Can Oppose Homosexuality at School": "A student who was required to attend homosexuality "diversity training" at his Kentucky school can proceed with a lawsuit seeking damages against school district officials for implementing a policy forbidding him and other students from sharing their Christian beliefs on homosexuality. The Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in the case Morrison vs. Bd. of Education of Boyd County said the school board policy had a "chilling effect" on the students' First Amendment rights, and it remanded the case to the District Court for further proceedings.

Now, I know that this is an amplified version of my take on all of this, but still, doesn’t this seem a bit extreme? Shouldn’t we have outgrown this mindset when we loosed our grip from mother’s apron strings?

I am not suggesting that we all go smoke a doobie, shag each other's collective brains out and then go empty a few refrigerators of anything edible or vaguely thirst quenching. But real tolerance and consideration has to begin somewhere, my suggestion: think before you speak. And if you still must speak, speak life to the situation; it can be passionate, angry or whatever, but not deliberately inflammatory. Mob mentality isn't a pretty thing.

Raven, we've got work right but families seriously all wrong, most of the time. It's all very sad.

Very good point Krystal, we do seem to identify with our careers more so than with the core of our lives; our families, with it's strange mixture of flaws and perfections. We need a modest shift in focus; I for one am not my job, I am an integral part of my family. Raven

Oh, I love this post dear Raven! That pic of you before the snow capped mountains - its making me DROOL(all over the keyboard, dammitt!) Dont you know, in Auzzie, we dont have REAL mountains - only high platforms that masquerade under the name....
This post has reminded me of a readers digest joke - "Rules for kids, if your sister hits you, dont retaliate - they always catch the second hitter!"

Amen kleo, I know that to be true. Juneau can be absolutely beautiful even on its worst days, most of Alaska is that same way. Raven
