The Legend of Flat Katie

Category: Gold Dust Fom Alaska
This tale begins with the delivery of a package, from "outside" of Alaska.
Grandma Sara and Grandpa Fred live in Alaska far from their grandchildren physically, but never far from their hearts. Recently, Flat Katie came into the lives of Sara and Fred via postal service mail walrus. It was an urgent request to show Flat Katie around for a week and to return her along with a journal of her travels to her owner, Katie a kindergarten student and their grandchild; a surrogate vacation of sorts. Here are the results to share with your children.
Flat Katie arrived in Juneau, Alaska March 03, 2008 and finally got to meet grandparents Sara, Fred and great grandma Alta. It was a joyous meeting.
The day is a blur of adventure for Flat Katie, she got to visit a glacier, play in the snow and fool around with a bear. No bears were harmed during the filming of this documentary, although Flat Katie was visibly shaken when the bear nibbled on her a little bit.
Grandma Sara took Flat Katie to work and introduced her to co-workers from around the world. Wonderful places like Russia, Thailand, Mexico, the Philippines and even the USA. She had a wonderful time and spent the day swapping stories and silly jokes with her new friends.
Flat Katie went out for a visit and snack with her grandparents. They had Thai egg rolls and sushi (fully cooked everything), mmm, very tasty. Katie got to hang out in an art studio and to do a little painting while she traded secrets with her new pal, MR Mannequin; he let's her call him Woody.
"Wow, grandma has the coolest stuff on her shelves," says Flat Katie, as she giggles quite loudly for such a tiny thing.
Your can read the journal by clicking on it to make it bigger and share in her adventures.
Grandma Sara and Flat Katie put together a scrapbook of her Alaskan adventure, very cool.
Playing hide and go seek with grandma is always great fun, can you find her.
Grandma Sara and Grandpa Fred are wearing Flat Katie out, she had to hide from them to get some rest. It must have been something they ate.
The time has passed quickly and Flat Katie has to get back to her mistress; saying bye is never easy.
Flat Katie's new friends sign her journal to say good bye for now, and invited her to come back again.
Flat Katie was returned home to her mistress last week, who promptly shared her adventure filled journal with her classmates. Mistress Katie will always remember sending this journal and her friend, Flat Katie to Alaska with a request to show her around.
So, if some day I should find a similar request in the mail from your Flat Katie to show him or her around, you can count on that happening. Like most Alaskans, I have a soft spot for innocents full of curiosity.
