Alaska with all of it's wondrous beauty, rancorous citizens and quirky politics is unique in the world. If you love rugged outdoor activities, you've just discovered nirvana.

Urban Legend or . . . ???

Here’s a one for the books: These photographs of four black bears cavorting on a backyard play set, were supposedly taken by a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, in August 2006. Or were they doctored? You decide

The Mom's Story: This playground was built in the yard for our 3 and 4 year-old boys. When finished, I got a call from mom to look outside.

There they were, four black bears having a great time. After about 20 minutes, I had to scare them off so they wouldn’t think our play set was a good place to hangout.

Although I threw rocks and dirt clods at them, they just sniffed the rocks and looked at me with their blank bear stare. When I actually hit one of them, they sauntered away. Leaving behind bite or claw marks in the wood, slide, toys, and a trail of poo in the woods [That's where they do it you know.]

Since then, my husband hooked up an air horn. That way, the boys can alert me if a moose or bear or porcupine or any other critter comes around. FINI, Done, The End, No More . . .

Well?

Real or faked??

gotta be real Raven!!

It's ALASKA for heavens sakes!!!

Your place is crawling with animals that eat humans, or just kill them, just like us Down Under here! Well, mostly we have things that just kill, only the shark and crocs actually go out of their way to eat us!

You lot have black bears, brown bears, polar bears and in the water...ORCA!!!!

I say, be proud of it, boast to one and all that your kids play with black bears, then see how the others shape up!

cheers...and by the way, lovely looking kids you got there Raven old boy! Who do they take after, you or Mrs.Raven? tee hee!

Perhaps Mama bear and Papa bear are into "open" relationships????

I believe it's real. We used to have raccoons that would play on the kids' toys at night.

Id love to believe it, because I know animals really do things like that, but the pics look a bit hokey. Story is missing some detail I think.

Psst, is anybody looking Kleo, it's true. I may have altered things a bit, except for the photos.

Love the one going down the slide.

What animals do when humans are not around.

Hey Jarrah, they like to play and will utilize anything as a toy. They crack me up at times.

Way cool aren't they Damo. Makes me wonder what occurs in the closets when I'm not around???

Years ago, I opened my bedroom curtains to find a cow at my window. I nearly keeled over with fright, and that was just a fat, masticating herbivore. I think a bear in my garden would be more than I could... bear.

Hello Cheryl, they can be a bit playful. Hahaha, I love the polar bear cub knawing on a trainer’s leg. Someone has to teach them how to be bears and that’s a part of it.

Hey fog, yup, it’s true.

Hello Michaelie, an unexpected cow can be a fright, just as much as a bear. I ran into a range steer (cow) inside a mining tunnel years ago, we startled each other pretty well. The cow dropped a cow pie and split off at high speed; I kept thinking ~ My sentiments exactly, as I exited in the other direction.

Hello Ash, their cable TV and internet service is very spotty so, it’s understandable that a harried mum would take the cubs to a park to burn off excess energy.

Thanks everyone. Raven
