When did the inmates take over the asylum?

I am suffering the effects of a raging toothache, and wow, it is painful. It is affecting my hearing, my eyes feel like they want to pop out of my head and I can’t chew pureed soup without mind numbing pain. Where the heck is my duct tape? It may be the only way to keep my cranium intact and from exploding. Today is one of those days; I really don’t want to get riled up.
But rather than heed my own desires for peace, I had a brain gas moment and turned on the television. Bad move on my part. Here in the US, we have assorted group of zealots that are skillfully trying to strip religion from our legal and social systems, another trying to put it back and equally zealous politicians pandering to both groups.
The same groups are battling over abortion rights, gun reform, punishing oil companies for not producing enough gasoline and for driving the prices through the roof even though the government gets 4 or 5 times more in taxes than the oil companies earn in profits per gallon, by the way Paris H is suffering a hangnail, the war in Iraq is being fought on three fronts (on the ground, in government and over the airways), we’re winning – we’re loosing – it’s a proxy war for Iran, arrrgh! I can’t stop the pain! Why do cats purr? I don’t know and I don’t care; my mouth is screaming for pain relief.
All parties to this waltz are complaining about the moral break downs manifesting in our society, blaming each other for the problem of the moment and demanding that they should be allowed to implement their favorite reform to fix everything.
And, interestingly enough, there aren’t any disinterested news sources reporting unbiased news; every one of them has an agenda. They aren’t trying to win the hearts and minds of their viewers with the strength and merit of their argument; they’re all spewing repetitious 10 second sound bites at their intended stooges. Because, it turns out that we are going to elect a new president in 2008, and everyone wants to get a leg up on the competition.
Why can’t I have a simple unbiased reporting of the issues, i.e., we’re fighting terrorists who are bent on world domination, global warming happens, environmentalists are preventing the development of new energy sources, over fishing the ocean and turning it into a cesspool is harmful to our health.
What do we get instead? George W. is responsible for all evil in the world, global warming is the result of Dinosaur flatulence and Paris H is going to follow in the steps of Mother Teresa and travel to Africa to save the continent.
I still can’t stop the pain! More duck tape won’t help, where the @#$&! is the remote to turn the tube off? It was here a minute ago???

I realize I'm a bit tardy in my reading, but it seems I was out of town and on a personal journey when you found your way to the wonderful world of Orble. I'm catching up, now... albeit slowly. Welcome to the community.
Tooth aches... easier to swallow, in my opinion, than most of the BS in the media, and I do know tooth aches (if nothing else).
Hope the pain ceases...

However, I have a cunning plan for one of the things that ail you, don't watch TV from the US, maybe Canada...dunno about them cousins there, you can watch ABC TV news in Oz, mostly, but it still annoys me when I have to listen to the garbage and lies spewing forth from government mouths...so...I am really unsure if we have a balanced, informative, politically unbiased news service that is untainted by the tendrills of nasty corporates....sigh...I'm depressed now...and I had hoped to end this with something witty, pithy and uplifting....

Nothing like real pain to take the edge off of the news casts proffered by some of the media sources.
fog,
my sentiments exactly.
Excuse me lady's, I've a dentist to visit, right after I drop by th Sandbar for a nip of frozen Stoli to take the edge off of my angst.
Thank you for dropping bye.
